NEW DELHI: Indian cricket star Virat Kohli is set to rejoin the Indian cricket team after flying to Mumbai from Guwahati due to a personal emergency. The Indian team arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday evening for their second warm-up match against the Netherlands, scheduled for Tuesday.
India’s first warm-up match against England in Guwahati had to be canceled due to rain, with not a single ball bowled on Saturday. There is a possibility that India’s second warm-up match could also be affected by rain, either partially or entirely.
The team’s practice session on Monday is contingent on weather conditions, with thunderstorms in the forecast. The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) provided an update stating that India would train at the St Xaviers College Cricket Ground from 2 to 5 pm.
Inclement weather has disrupted the warm-up matches in Thiruvananthapuram thus far. The South Africa vs. Afghanistan game on September 29 was abandoned due to rain, while the Australia vs. Netherlands match on September 30 became a 23-over contest but wasn’t completed due to rain.
South Africa is scheduled to play New Zealand in their second warm-up match on Monday, followed by India’s game against the Netherlands on Tuesday. India, the champions in 1983 and 2011, will kick off their campaign against five-time champions Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This marks the first time India is solely hosting the Men’s ODI World Cup.
